Cowrie Forms Porcelain Sculpture
- Description
Inspired by the intricate patterns and organic shapes of Cowrie Shells, I designed this little collection to sit together in a friendly cluster.
I like to display these on my coffee table where I can enjoy their tactile forms and intricately patterned textures. The cheeky tufts of cotton always make me smile.
I create each ceramic art piece through a slow process of hand sculpting, slip casting and a variety of textural finishing techniques. My working process is largely intuitive as I experiment with and learn from the beautifully smooth porcelain clay. Additions of hand painted natural fibres highlight a contrast between the hard clay and soft textile details, making each piece completely unique.
Like the ripples in each ocean tide, no two pieces are the same.
