Pufferfish Porcelain Sculpture- Small in Orange and Plum
This collection was inspired by the charismatic Pufferfish, a familiar site drifting about our costal waters. These spiky, seemingly clumsy swimmers can cleverly inflate their bodies in an attempt to evade predators.
This loveable Pufferfish displays nicely on its own or as a friendly grouping with others in the collection.
I create each ceramic art piece through a slow process of hand sculpting, slip casting and a variety of textural finishing techniques. My working process is largely intuitive as I experiment with and learn from the beautifully smooth porcelain clay. Additions of hand painted natural fibres highlight a contrast between the hard clay and soft textile details, making each piece completely unique.
Like the ripples in each ocean tide, no two pieces are the same.
