Sculpted Spines II - Porcelain Sculpture

In my work “Sculpted Spines” I aim to capture the essence of sea urchins, and seek to evoke a sense of wonder about the world beneath the waves.

This piece explores the dichotomy inherent in nature, where delicate beauty often coexists with formidable defenses. The sea urchin's protective exterior, adorned with its characteristic spines, mirrors the resilience found within vulnerability.

I create each ceramic art piece through a slow process of hand sculpting, slip casting and a variety of textural finishing techniques. My working process is largely intuitive as I experiment with and learn from the beautifully smooth porcelain clay.

• Medium urchin is approximately 9cm x 9cm x 9cm high
• Small urchin is approximately 8cm x 8cm x 8cm high
• Smaller urchin is approximately 4cm x 4cm x 4,5cm
